It has lived up to my expectations in every way after using it for a week. It was extensively used during a 250 mile day trip to Milwaukee from suburban Chicago. I felt extremely confident driving around in unfamiliar territory.

*Sattelite load is quick- nearly instant except for (1) instance where it took about a minute.

*Traffic alert and map showed congestion and offered the option to go around.

*The selected routed for areas I am familiar with were nearly identical to the ones I have driven over the years.

*The dislay is bright, clear and updates quickly. I did not experience any sluggishness.

*The lane assist works on several exits in the Chicago area- not any in the Milwaukee area. These snapshots appeared at just the right time to illustrate the proper exit lane based on the highlighted road sign. I imagine this will become available for many more highways as maps are updated.

*Mounting and connecting were first rate- the windshield suction worked very well as did the unit power adapter and cable.

Este punto es muy importante. Mucho más de lo que a simple vista pueda parecer, porque Internet le da a tu empresa la oportunidad de acceder a usuarios/clientes a los que hasta ahora no se había dirigido o a los que no podía alcanzar. Quizá clientes de otras zonas geográficas, o de otros sectores de negocio, etc…

No olvides que es relativamente frecuente en Internet encontrarse con clientes que jamás hubiéramos imaginado que podían interesarse por nuestros productos. Por otro lado, también es cierto que por Internet sólo podemos acceder al público que está conectado. No, a los que no lo están.

Saber a que tipo de personas nos dirigimos, nos ayudará a adecuar nuestra imagen y el tipo de lenguaje que vamos a utilizar a sus gustos y preferencias. Por ejemplo, si tu negocio se dirige a niños y chicos jóvenes, tu sede web deberá tener una imagen desenfadada y utilizar un lenguaje coloquial. Por el contrario, si la sede web de tu negocio se dirige a empresas, deberá tener una imagen más profesional y usar un lenguaje mucho más formal, ¿no te parece?.

Es decir ¿qué es lo queremos conseguir con nuestra sede web en Internet?. ¿Queremos simplemente tener una presencia corporativa?. ¿Queremos fidelizar a nuestros actuales clientes?. ¿Queremos captar nuevos clientes?. ¿Queremos diferenciarnos de nuestros competidores tomando una actitud proactiva en lugar de pasiva?.

En definitiva, antes de encargar nuestra sede web, debemos tener claro a quien nos dirigimos y qué es lo que queremos conseguir con ella. En caso contrario, y permítenos que insistamos, vas a perder tu tiempo y tu dinero.

Cricut Expression Cutting Machine: My First Cricut Project

My Daughter & I
Surfing the internet one day for crafting products, one that really caught my eye was the Cricut Expression Machine. I mentioned it to my daughter and she told me that she usually buys her party invitations, banners and other assorted items from a neighbor who has a Cricut machine. I always wondered where she found such cute party supplies! So, I told her I would buy the machine and together we could make our own party supplies, scrapbooks, etc. She has baby number three on the way, and I have 4 other grandchildren. This was a no-brainer for me.

What It Came With
The Cricut Cutting Machine came with 3 DVDs: two project DVDs and a basic How-to DVD. It also came with a large cutting mat (they call it a tacky mat), 2 cartridges with hundreds of images, and other stuff you need. Lisa decided to buy the Once Upon A Princess cartridge, since she will soon have three little girls.
Lisa and I opened the cutting machine, watched the how-to video and one of the project videos. We put in the Princess cartridge and placed the overlay on the keyboard. Next we loaded up some simple printer paper to practice on and pressed “Load Paper” button. So far, so good.

Our First Project
With a birthday party coming up for our 5 year old princess, we decided to cut out some crowns to see how precise it would cut. We adjusted the Cricut’s speed for slower cutting, recommended for thinner papers. We chose our image and image size then selected the auto fill option. After double and triple checking to be sure we have everything set, we hit the Start button.

The crowns came out perfectly! We just had to keep trying different images. I’ve already started on new photo albums for the grandchildren to give everyone at Christmas. Lisa is cutting out shapes and letters for her scrapbooks. So many shapes, so little time.

Esta medida hará que al bot recorra mas paginas en menos tiempo y de cara al usuario, que es el que realmente va a resultar favorecido con esta medida.

Hay muchas formas de reducir el tiempo de carga de una página web, igual que en el posicionamiento en buscadores, hay factores internos, que siempre podremos controlar y mejorar nosotros mismos directamente y factores externos que afectaran al rendimiento de nuestro sitio web.

El segundo alojamiento era un VPS con 5Gb de espacio en disco, 100Gb de transferencia y 250Mb de RAM que su coste suele rondar sobre unos 300€ al año. El tiempo de carga en este alojamiento bajo considerablemente llegando a cargar el blog en 5 segundos más o menos.

Por último me dejaron probar un señor servidor dedicado con 2 procesadores Intel Xeon (8 núcleos) 2.4Ghz, 16GB DDR2 de memoria RAM y 3 discos duros en RAID de 1Tb cada uno y no sé cuantas cosas más, el precio de este alojamiento, según me dijeron era de unos 10.000€ anuales. Los tiempos de carga fueron increíbles, el tiempo de carga bajo hasta poco más de 1 segundo.

Evidentemente, esto era matar moscas a cañonazos pero la comparativa de alojamientos web y sus tiempos de carga que he podido realizar me ha hecho ver que es preferible pagar un poco más y utilizar un VPS que está dentro de un precio razonable para unos sitios web medios y fácil de amortizar con la publicidad de estos sitios.

Maybe it is because I have been making barbecues for many years, maybe there is something mystical about preparing and lighting the fire, but I always find that I follow the same procedure … maybe it is because it works for me.

I start by placing the firelighter’s in a specific pattern on the grid so as to ensure that when the charcoal is placed on the top there are no areas that will not be lit.

I then stack the charcoal on top of the firelighters to make a pyramid making sure that I do not place too much charcoal on the grill at this time as this will just smother the firelighters.

I then light the fire from the bottom making sure that all the firelighters are all lit and then stand back and observe my achievement.

Once the first few coals are lit and burning I then gradually add more charcoal making sure to not add too much charcoal at a time as this will smother the lit coals. One thing that I have learnt over the years is to make sure that there is ample clearance between the pyramid of charcoal with the firelighters and the base of the grill. This allows air to be drawn in from the bottom by the flames and the fire takes much easier. In other words attempting to make a fire directly on a flat surface is much more difficult. This is where the Weber One Touch charcoal grill comes into its own. This charcoal grill has a specially designed fire grill on which to light the fire. It is positioned above the base of the grill pan and the grill has adjustable air grooves cut into the bowel which allows you to adjust the amount of air that the fire needs. Hockey organizer nets award

The success of Hockey Night in Albert Head landed a Langley resident a prestigious award recently.

Lt. Brad Rouleau was presented with an Innovation Award at the final graduation parade at Albert Head Air Cadet Summer Training Centre (AHACSTC), near Victoria, by Commanding Officer Lt.-Col. Richard Mudryk.

Rouleau, 21, received the award for organizing “Officer vs. Staff Cadet” ball hockey, held two nights per week at the training centre. Rouleau, a flight commander for the Basic Leadership course, is the only recipient of an Innovation Award in 2010.

Known affectionately as “Hockey Night in Albert Head,” these intra-mural games addressed physical fitness (one of the aims of the cadet program), and promoted camaraderie, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership.

The hockey matches also inspired the first ever Vancouver Island inter-CSTC Officer ball hockey tournament, held at AHACTSC.

During the year, Rouleau is the training officer at 746 Lightning Hawk Squadron in Langley.

He was an air cadet for seven years and attained both his glider pilot and private pilot’s licences through the program. he is currently completing a bachelor of business administration at the University of the Fraser Valley.

The cadet program is designed to contribute to the development and preparation of youth for the transition to adulthood, enabling them to meet the challenges of modern society through a dynamic, community-based program.

Canadian Forces Reserve Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC) Officers are responsible for cadet training, supervision, and administration.

The vast majority serve the CF on a part-time basis while continuing full-time studies or pursuing a civilian career.

La búsqueda de una vida saludable se ha convertido en una prioridad personal que ha conducido a que ordenemos nuestras vidas en función de numerosas normas y dispositivos de conducta vinculados con la preservación de la salud.

En 200 años de Independencia de nuestro País ha existido un gran avance en diversos campos de la sociedad, sin quedar atrás el Medico del cual hablaremos brevemente. Se han reformado leyes, se han creado Instituciones Publicas, Privadas las cuales se han enfocado en el bienestar del mexicano.

Comenzando a finales del siglo XVIII y principios del XIX, cuando los programas estatales de saneamiento y de intervención ambiental adquieren un lugar preponderante en la vida nacional. Esos programas fueron creados de manera primordial por la necesidad de contener la propagación de enfermedades epidémicas como la Viruela, la fiebre amarilla, el tifo, el cólera, y el sarampión por mencionar algunos, que eran en ese entonces enfermedades catastróficas que cobraban la vida de miles de compatriotas.

Durante los años que transcurrieron entre la Independencia y la Revolución Mexicana, fueron lentos pero profundos las transformaciones que se registraron en los ámbitos de la Salud Pública.

En el siglo XIX fue testigo de la recepción y adaptación de la medicina clínica y experimental europea y de la creación de los primeros Institutos nacionales de Investigación medica. Se fundó un conocimiento en la etiología de las enfermedades infecto-contagiosas y los tratamientos a seguir, gracias al nacimiento y consolidación de la Bacteriología y la Inmunología.

Es importante mencionar que México ingresó a su vida independiente asolado por insalubridad y por la propagación de enfermedades epidémicas y catastróficas. Al finalizar el siglo XIX la condición de la mayor parte de los hospitales en el ámbito de la enseñanza y del ejercicio de la medicina era deplorable, así continúo entre los años 1810-1910 en donde la gente creía que estar en sus hogares en momentos de enfermedad era lo mas seguro.

En 1895 a nivel nacional solo se contaba con 2,282 médicos con titulo legal para poder ejercer su profesión. Además existían diferentes agentes de la salud como: curanderos y parteras empíricas entre otros.

Durante el a transcurso del siglo XIX los programas y campañas de salud Pública tuvieron una orientación predominantemente urbano, y las acciones en materia de salubridad se concentraron de manera muy particular en transformar a la Ciudad de México en un ámbito saludable e higiénico.

De los años 1910-1920 se registró una gradual re-orientación de las Políticas estatales de la salud, que consistía en la necesidad de establecer servicios sanitarios permanentes en el área rural que en ese entonces eran casi nulos.

En 1917 se crearon en la CONSTITUCION POLITICA DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS, leyes y artículos enfocados en la salud a nivel nacional, los cuales no se mencionaran aquí.

Aún en las décadas de 1920-1930, había escasez de médicos y ausencia de Instituciones de salubridad a nivel nacional. Durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX fue gradual y decisiva la búsqueda de soluciones al abandono que predominaba en el área rural en motivo de salubridad e higiene.

En estos tiempos fueron creados entonces Hospitales e Instituciones en nuestro País los cuales favorecieron a sectores de la sociedad que anteriormente no tenían acceso a estos servicios.

Desde entonces se han ido formando diversos Institutos (IMSS, ISSSTE, SEDENA, SEGURO POPULAR) los cuales dan servicio a millones de compatriotas los cuales han mejorado su esperanza y calidad de vida.

En este Bicentenario de nuestra Independencia hemos sido testigos de epidemias, de la aparición de nuevas enfermedades catastróficas como el SIDA, pero también vimos como el campo de la medicina se ha ido revolucionando con la aparición de múltiples medicamentos para diversas patologías, las maravillosas vacunas, la anestesia, los Rayos X, el ultrasonido, la Tomografía, la Resonancia Magnética, que van felicitando la practica medica, se han creado funcionales Hospitales que cuentan con la Tecnología mas avanzada a nivel mundial, también presenciamos a Médicos Ilustres. Registran 35 mil viajes con ECOBICI

En la primera fase del Sistema de Transporte Público Individual ECOBICI que puso en marcha el Gobierno del Distrito Federal el 16 de febrero del año en curso, se reportan más de tres mil personas inscritas hasta el último corte.

“Ha logrado demostrar ser un medio de transporte confiable, a diferencia de países como Barcelona o Madrid, donde a poco tiempo de haber puesto en marcha este mismo sistema, tuvieron reportes de robo de bicicletas. En la ciudad de México no tenemos reporte de una caso similar”, expresó en entrevista para El Universal, la Secretaría del Medio Ambiente del Distrito Federal, Martha Delgado Peralta.

Se han realizado más de 35 mil viajes en los vehículos del servicio ECOBICI el cual cuenta con mil 114 bicicletas y 85 cicloestaciones automatizadas.

A diario varía el número de trayectos realizados pero en promedio se estima son mil 600. El día que más se utilizan los vehículos de ECOBICI es el viernes donde se hacen hasta dos mil recorridos.

“Curiosamente el día que menos se utiliza es el lunes y podríamos pensar que el domingo es el día fuerte por las actividades en Reforma, pero no, recordemos que la finalidad de este sistema no es recreativo sino para resolver trayectos en días donde el transito es pesado”, puntualizó, Martha Delgado.

Los usuarios

En lo que va del mes de abril, a diario el portal de ECOBICI recibió alrededor de 500 mil 300 visitas de interesados en adquirir y conocer sobre este medio de transporte.

Los inscritos al Sistema de Transporte Público Individual ECOBICI variaron por día, no obstante, el 3 de abril es una de las fechas con mayor afluencia pues adquirieron su tarjeta 89 personas.

“Las personas que utilizan ECOBICI son aquellas que tienen una estación cerca de su trabajo por lo regular, sin embargo, tenemos casos registrados del pago con tarjeta de crédito del servicio para más de una persona, como es que el padre de familia inscribió también a todos los miembros de su familia”, explicó Martha Delgado.
Las estaciones más utilizadas

En su primera fase de ECOBICI existen estaciones en las colonias Hipódromo, Hipódromo-Condesa, Condesa, Roma Norte, Juárez y Cuauhtémoc.

Donde hay mayor uso del sistema de transporte en bicicleta es la Condesa respectivamente en la estación ubicada en la calle Alfonso Reyes esquina con Nuevo León y la calle de Durango esquina con Sonora.

La segunda zona donde existe mayor demanda de las bicicletas es en Reforma en las estaciones ubicadas alrededor de la Glorieta del Ángel de la Independencia y frente a la plaza 222 sobre Reforma.

En cuestión de accidentes la titular de medio ambiente explico que “hasta el momento no tenemos ningún reporte todo ha caminado bien en un ambiente de respeto no sólo a las bicicletas sino también a los usuarios”, Finalizó.

As large parts of the American West continue to experience drought, waterless car washes have been catching on. A new company in Austin, Tex., called WaterSmart, for example, washes cars with a coconut-based soap, according to an article in The Austin American Statesman.

The soap, made in various formulas under a brand called Freedom, for which WaterSmart is the local distributor, is biodegradable, the proprietors say.

“The biggest thing we’re up against is the human brain, which says, ‘That doesn’t make sense,’” said Sarah Morgan, who runs WaterSmart along with her husband, according to the newspaper.

Another waterless car wash — a mobile one called EcoSmart Waterless Auto Care — began operations in the Austin area this year. It brings its services to customers, in office complexes, retail centers and parking garages.

Carwash.com also reports that there have been a “plethora of waterless car-wash and wax products to hit shelves in recent months.”

Back east, the Maryland Department of the Environment, citing 2002 figures from the International Car Wash Association, reports that conveyer-belt car washes can require up to 85 gallons of water. The department’s Web site also offers water-saving tips for do-it-yourself car washers.

For all this, though, some traditional carwash operators are not buying the idea of a waterless wash.

“In my opinion waterless car washing is primarily a gimmick to sell the chemical product used in the process,” Randy Cressall, who owns the Valencia Chevron Auto Spa in Valencia, Calif., and is a past president of the Western Carwash Association, said in an e-mail message.

One problem, according to Mr. Cressall, is that waterless car washes can take twice as much time as regular ones. Also, he said, “I have yet to see a waterless car wash performed properly and safely when it comes to protecting the finish of the car.”

There are clearly better options available when considering all the pros and cons. A good professional car wash can perform a wash using not much more water than required to flush a toilet with the proper use of reclaim and re-purification, all the while maintaining proper protection of the automobile finish and in less than half the time and labor required for a waterless car wash.

Even though it’s more important than ever to be familiar with your credit score and what affects that crucial number, experts say a lot of Americans don’t know nearly as much as they should about what they do that can impact their score. WalletPop got on the phone with John Ulzheimer, president of consumer education at Credit.com to find out more. We also caught up with Barry Paperno, consumer operations manager for FICO, via email to ask him to spill some credit score secrets.

For instance, many people think that if they pay their bills on time, their credit score must be good. Right? Wrong, say our experts. Even if you always pay on time, if your cards are close to being maxed out, your score isn’t going to be as high as it could be, since borrowing up to the hilt looks like a risk factor to the credit bureaus. Surprised? Read on to find out five more credit secrets that can help you get the credit score you deserve.

1. Pay off revolving debt first. There are two different kinds of debt most of us carry: installment debts, which are generally secured by collateral (such as a car loan), and revolving debt, such as credit card balances. Since credit card balances are unsecured — the company can’t repossess the spoils of your last shopping spree if you don’t pay up — they’re viewed as much riskier in the FICO equation. As a result, paying off revolving debt boosts your credit score more than paying off a comparable amount of installment debt. “Paying off installment debt has such a small impact on your score,” says Ulzheimer. “Last year, I paid off a 4,000 mortgage and my score went up four points.” In other words, put that overtime check, bonus or tax refund toward credit card bills if you want the most bang for your high-score buck.

2. Payments to collection agencies don’t boost your score. By the time a debt goes to a third-party collection firm, the original lender (your credit card company, for instance) has already written off the loan as a loss and noted that delinquency on your report. While there are a host of good reasons — such as not getting sued and not being pestered with phone calls at all hours — to pay the bill once a third party collector has it, those payments won’t count toward your FICO score and won’t erase the notation of delinquency.

Likewise, if you get dinged with an insufficient funds fee at your bank and “retaliate” by closing the account or not putting any more money into it, you can get slapped with a collection action by your bank that will negatively impact your score. “In addition to bank account debt, such collection accounts can also arise from utility bills, parking tickets, and even library fines – and can often impact your score as much as unpaid credit card or loan debt,” Paperno warns. Bottom line: Pay those bills before they’re sent to a collection agency if you want to preserve your score.

3. Accentuate the positive. While you obviously want to make sure that black marks like missed payments don’t stay on your report any longer than necessary, it’s perfectly okay and even desirable to have old accounts that were in good standing still listed. For instance, say you paid off a car loan and never made a late payment on it. While you could lobby the bureaus to take that information off your report, it’s more beneficial to leave it on, says Ulzheimer. “This is a great example of when less is more. Don’t ask them to take it off if it’s in good standing.”

4. Opening and closing accounts can lower your score. “FICO’s research has found that opening a new account is predictive of increased risk, and opening any type of credit account or loan action can lower one’s score,” explains Paperno. The good news, he adds, is that your score will rise back to its original level within a few months if you keep the balance low and make your payments on time.

Closing cards can ding you because it skews your credit utilization ratio — that is, how much of your available credit you’ve used — when that line of credit suddenly vanishes. For this reason, experts say to use all your cards at least occasionally. An unused card does you no good if the issuer cancels it due to inactivity.

5. Borrowing more to pay down your debt is dicey. Despite the fact that Americans are often pitched offers of “consolidation” loans by their bank or mortgage lender, taking on more debt to eliminate your credit card bills is a risky proposition. “You’re borrowing from Peter to pay Paul,” says Ulzheimer. Since most consolidation loans are home equity loans backed by your house, failure to get a handle on your spending and pay off your debts as intended could have catastrophic consequences, he points out. “If you miss these payments, the down side is much more significant.” There’s also the fact, as we pointed out above, that opening new accounts can at least temporarily lower your score.

However, taking out an installment loan to pay off your credit card bills could prove beneficial — with one significant caveat. As Paperno points out, installment debt doesn’t drag down your score the way a bunch of maxed out credit cards can, so if — and this is the big “if” — you have the discipline to pay off your cards with that new loan money and stop using the cards until the installment loan is paid off, you could raise your score. But as Paperno points out, it takes a super-sized helping of discipline in order to make this tactic successful.

Pyme mexicanas apuestan por mayor capacitación tecnológica

Con el objetivo de que las Pyme de Monterrey avancen en materia de administración de proyectos y desarrollo de software, la Secretaría Económica llevó a cabo el Circuito Tecnológico Avantare Spingere en el Centro para la Industria de Software (CDIS).

La idea es homologar el trabajo que se viene haciendo con las Pyme de Ciudad de México, localidad donde ya se han desarrollado 19 circuitos tecnológicos. La iniciativa, que se realiza por primera vez en Monterrey, pretende aprovechar de mejor manera la amplia base de empresas que se dedican a la generación de software.

Según informó el medio local Milenio.com, los esfuerzos de la Secretaría Económica se han volcado en la capacitación del Modelo de Madurez de Capacidades (CMMI), certificación fundamental para que las Pyme mexicanas del rubro puedan expandir sus productos y servicios hacia Estados Unidos o Canadá.

La Secretaría Económica está apoyando esta iniciativa a través del programa Prosoft, que se encarga de cubrir un porcentaje de la asesoría, ya que una Pyme del área TI podría llegar a gastar hasta US$150 mil en obtener la capacitación.

En esta línea, Elizabeth Almeraz, directora de Consultoría de Avantare, señaló que “el modelo CMMI sirve para ayudar a que todos los empleados tengan la misma visión y capacitación para repetir un éxito, así tienes personal más satisfecho y los accionistas están más satisfechos porque pierden menos”.

¿Recuerdan hace tiempo cuando decíamos que en internet la llave de acceso a nuestra información era nuestro correo electrónico? Facebook y probablemente Twitter vayan a cambiar eso definitivamente.

Hace unos años, no muchos, uno para aplicar a cualquier aplicación online o servicio solo necesitaba un correo electrónico, este email terminaba auspiciando de llave, resguardando detrás toda nuestra identidad online. Como podrán ver existen cosas positivas y negativas en las tres alternativas (email, Facebook y Twitter) no obstante existe una tercer alternativa, que es la que más me gusta, y utilizan varios servicios web como por ejemplo Vimeo.

La tercer forma es la de vincular los tres servicios en caso de desearlo, pero dando predominio a uno sobre los otros, en el caso de Vimeo la última palabra la tiene la cuenta de correo, porque uno se registra al servicio como siempre, tan solo con un nombre de usuario, password y email, y luego va agregando accesos sociales, es decir, vincula su cuenta a perfiles, y esta forma es la que más me gusta a mi.
